Brisbane City Football Club was founded under the name "Gli Azzurri" in 1952 and was originally based in Kedron, a suburb of the city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The Club's first Chairman was Alessandro Rossi, who held the role from 1952 to 1955.
Gli Azzurri began life with just one immigrant team in the Fourth Division. In 1959 they were promoted to the First Division, winning the first final in 1961 and the first League Title in 1970. Since its formation, the club has won 13 League Titles, 13 Finals, 12 Queensland Cups and 2 National Cups.
In 1977, Brisbane City became Queensland's first professional sports team to compete in a national competition, the Philips League, and won its first national titles in the Philips Cup in 1977 against Marconi FC and 1978 against Adelaide City.
In 1981, Brisbane City took a step forward, opening its new $1 million grandstand at its ground in Spencer Park, which is still its home today. The club originally secured the purchase of Spencer Park in 1963, when it was still a dump.
Today, Brisbane City has over 600 players from the age of three up to the first team, which now competes in Australia's equivalent of the Second Division.
Brisbane City is the number one youth development club in Queensland and, over the past five years, it has undertaken an extensive programme of work to expand its pitches and restore its facilities, with the aim of being one of the best clubs in the country. In 2023, it will host a club from a foreign country as a FIFA-approved training base for the Women's World Cup.
